I saw a report ont he BBC this morning that the Hull based development company is to close with the loss of 34 jobs. You can read the full story here,
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/humberside/10271632.stm
And here
http://www.thisishullandeastriding.co.uk/news/Sad-news-axe-falls-Hull-Forward/article-2282790-detail/article.html

What will this mean for the future of Hull?

We pay taxes to the government who give say £1 to Yorkshire Forward who have offices and officers that may take 30p out of that £1.They then give that 60p to Hull Forward, who may take another 30p of that to pay their officers and for officesThe remaining 40p goes on regeneration. So scrap both quangos and let Hull City Council and the East Riding Council get that full £1.They both have economic development units that can do the same work.It cuts out duplication and fragmentation.
At least the coghull that nobody could relate to,and now arrowHull have gone or will go.It is like having a window cleaner with a person on every rung of his ladder passing the bucket up and down and all adding to the costs. Now all we have is a window cleaner and a bucket filler as a cost effective price. The mind boggles at Barrows much used analogy (last seen in a letter to the HDM), as for giving it to the council, I wonder if the NHS yacht money was well spent, or the frogs, or the island wharf building.

At least it was my letter in the Mail,so I have not pinched it.
But it does seem that quangos do take chunks out of public money and just pass part of that money on the people that need it.
As for Island Wharf building,it does house the World Trade Centre..Sounds very grand until you realise that only two offices in that building are used by the the World Trade Centre and many office units are still not let.It was "build in the hope it gets filled"
Has anyone seen the new £7 million footbridge being built over the River Hull?
Pity that the Boom development is on hold,
One item in the report in the Mail says the manager of St.Stevens, when taking to retailers, said they do not always know where Hull is.
I also suggested in a letter in the Mail that a new logo should be "Hull,Yorkshires Great maritime City".That "tells and sells" where Hull is and what Hull is.
But Hull had a £60,000 cog logo.

I`m sure that some of these quangos` pluck figures out of the air. Who the hell in their right mind would pay £60,000 for an image of a cog in the first place and especially when it had nothing whatsoever to do with Hull.
The report states that Yorkshire Forward were there to promote the city but I have seen little evidence of this. I`m sure we have people in the council that could do the same job for a lot less expence
