It's all very well having a forum of yourmail good guys but this one is not really working is it? This forum needs new users and untill it does it is going nowhere, a bit like the dead parrot sketch really. A really good effort on Admins part though.

What do you suggest we do about it then? You can't make people join. I was beginning to think everyone was on holiday - or tied up watching the obscure team sport that is on at the moment. Tennis I think it's called. lol!

Maybe we could do with a nice little controversy.

I guess it is like anything else; it takes time to get up and running. I don't really know how one can let people out there know we exist except by word of mouth and that would take ages. maybe there is some online publication that would carry an advert for this forum. I did mention to Mike Covell the other day about the lack of action on here and he has been on holiday but he says he will have a look at things when he gets back. I wonder if Facebook would allow an ad for the forum or don't you tell them and just put an ad on?

I wouldn't know anything about Facebook as it's not something I've ever used. I'm guessing regulars such as Tigerlilly must be away though. It has been awfully quiet for a while now.

I`m Back!
Yes I have been on holiday. Looking through the posts it has been very quiet but I suppose it could be down to the very nice weather we`re having along with the footy, the tennis and the bbq`s that cause that horrendous smelly fug as soon as the sun comes out. sunny

It's been a beautiful day today and lovely sitting out in the garden. Fortunately none of my family are interested in football, so everyone is happy Cool I will concede though that it's a shame poor old England is out of the running. Never mind, enjoy the sunshine.

I noticed very few posts in the last week.It does need more members with more views.Maybe if people replied to comments on a news items in the Hull Mail.with a plug for this site. That may help.
As for me and my wife, jsut come back from a mystery trip with National Holidays.Went to Lemington Spa on saturday and Stattford on Avon today.Great hotel and BB&EM ,plus the coach for only £49.The Novhotel we stayed in was £139 a night! So how can National do it for £49? Had a boat trip on the river and near Shakeperes bithplace, saw many "statues" that moved.Full of tourists and locals sitting near the river enjoying the sun.
Coming back to Hull makes you realise how out on a limb Hull is.
One last thing is that a new group has been set up to try and get the Lincoln Castle bought and brought back to Hull.Meeting outside th Mineva pub 3 July,at 10 50 and then in the Minerva. If interested, please come along.

Hi guys, I am back off holiday and back online. I will be posting this forum to other sites over the next few days, and posting the link to sites with a local slant to them.

The Airlie Birds got well hammered tonight at the KC and we were discussing afterwards why is that the city of Hull can not find the where with all to get top class players to come here and I include football in this as well. Do you think that the north east is classed as a poor location when it comes to general discussion in the national media. Should we be worried? Do you enjoy your liftesyle in this area. If you had the choice (some hope) would you live elsewhere, and why? You may think this is off topic but is it ?

I travel quite a bit and people always ask where I am from, whenever I mention Hull they always bring up crime, drugs and the darker seedier side of Hull.

Yes and that's probably because whenever Hull is mentioned by the media, that's all they mention. I wondered if the coverage of the yacht race last weekend might help with that, since it showed the marina and its surroundings. We said that people would probably be thinking 'that can't be Hull, it looks far too nice'. A reputation, deserved or undeserved, is hard to get rid of. I have to say that I don't think the council helps either, as it is rubbish at publicising all the events and good things that happen in this fair city.

Last weekend I was watching BBC TV early morning. The presenters informed that the clipper was due in that morning and they would be screening live coverage in Hull. When the yachts arrived at the pier, the coverage lasted only three minutes-disgusting!. Had the event been held down south or in the London area, the coverage would have got a higher profile and lasted at least half an hour. If Hull was to gain some benefit from the event, BBC certainly scuppered it!

Medsec is quite right when she says that HCC are rubbish at promoting the city of Hull. But that is not the only problem that Hull has to contend with. It has always been the forgotten man of Yorkshire and I think that stems from the fact that the road to Hull is just that....a road to Hull. Once you drive down to the end of The Clive Sullivan that is it, dead end. The railway line ends at Hull Paragon and goes nowhere else and even the Humber Bridge is the final stretch of road. For some reason best known to themselves the media seem to take great delight in using Hull as an example of all that is rubbish in this country and they are not even fair about it. When Hull was recently voted as the number one council in Britain for recycling the only paper to mention it was HDM. BBC and YTV didn't even give it a mention but by God if it had been voted as the worst it would have hit the headlines. When Channel 4 produced a programme about the worst place to live in Britain it was Hull that got it in the neck but it was the most disgustingly one-sided programme I have ever seen, dwelling on the old properties which had been closed and boarded up in the poorest parts of the city and choosing not to mention the new housing along the docksides and other places. Maybe if we had a Greater Hull which included the dormitory villages such as Anlaby, Hessle, Cottingham, etc. things would begin to look up, but I wouldn't hold my breath. Mind you I think there might be a revolution if they tried to change all these leafy suburbs and villages to Greater Hull. Ooooh what Larks, Mister Pip! lol!

On our travels,we often say we are from near Hull, and get blank looks.Very few know where it even is! The perception is one of former east coast fishing port somwhere up north. We have seen that perception change when people come to the Deep.We have heard them say,"we did not know the river was so wide/the bridge was so big/the marina was nice"
But until folks come to Hull and see it,the perception will be poor, added to the fact that it always get bad press
We often go on coach trips, but when coming back to Hull, once past Doncaster on the M18 or past the A1 on the M62,traffic gets lower, houses and industry is left behind and you have miles of open fields until you reach Hull. You realise how out the way Hull is.Why should any firm want to invest or locate in miles from anywhere Hull?
Having said that as one that lives in the leafy suburb of Hessle, what can I say to those in Hull that want us to be a part of greater Hull on a public website?
And dont forget that until Hull got its Royal Charter, the dead of Hull had to burried in Hessle churchyard as little old Hull was a suburb of ancient Hessle!
